Die Spielweise weicht ein wenig von der der normalen Traversen ab. Das Instrument soll ganz weich angeblasen werden, und die Klangkraft soll über die Resonanz und die Obertöne gesucht werden. Wichtig ist die Einstellung der Flöte: Körper und Kopf liegen in einem Winkel von ca 45 Grad zueinander:
